New Zealand Artist, creating inspired cinematic scenes.

Antoinette Wastney is a contemporary realism painter based in Ōtautahi Christchurch. With a passion for bringing a sense of fun and playfulness to the traditionally ‘serious’ medium of realism, she challenges the conventions of this genre to create work that is both engaging and thought-provoking.

At the core of Antoinette’s artistic practice is the theme of interconnectedness. She explores the dynamic relationship between the external world and the internal emotional and mental landscapes of individuals. Her work goes beyond mere representations of nature or human figures; it blurs the lines between the physical and the emotional, encouraging viewers to reflect on how we interpret both our environment and our feelings.

A central theme in Antoinette’s work is the emotional connections we form with simple, everyday objects. Life studies have become a pivotal aspect of her practice, highlighting the often-overlooked bonds we share with the things around us. Through these detailed renderings, Antoinette invites her audience to pause and consider the emotional weight these objects carry in our lives.

Antoinette has exhibited her work at Chambers Art Gallery and Eastside Gallery, and has also participated in numerous art auctions, using her art to support meaningful causes. She holds a Bachelor of Teaching and an Advanced Diploma in Fine Arts, and balances her time between her roles as an artist and an educator.

Looking towards the future, Antoinette envisions expanding her reach through further gallery exhibitions while inspiring others to pursue their own artistic ambitions. Her ultimate goal is to create work that not only sparks joy and entertains, but also encourages deep, reflective thought about human connections, self-awareness, and the dialogue between the inner self and the world around us.

Through her art, Antoinette seeks to initiate a delicate dance between the charm of the natural and man-made worlds and the profound depths of the human experience.
